Description
A timeless masterpiece of love, loss and consolation, Bach’s St Matthew Passion returns to de Doelen in Rotterdam with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Jonathan Cohen. Universally moving and profoundly expressive, this oratorio continues to resonate with audiences across generations.
Following his acclaimed debut in 2021, Cohen brings renewed depth and sensitivity to the work. As noted in de Volkskrant, Cohen’s leadership during Handel’s Messiah revealed the raw emotion and dramatic power of a full baroque ensemble. This year, he applies that same energy and insight to Bach’s Passion, guiding soloists and orchestra through music that speaks with timeless conviction.
