Description
Four virtuosic artists, connected through their shared cultural heritage of West Africa, unite in the Senegalese/Malian supergroup Mandé Sila. Their rich musical traditions stem from the Mandinka Empire (spanning the 14th to 16th centuries, covering present-day Mali, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea-Conakry, and Mauritania) and come together on stage.
Habib Koité, one of Africa's most popular musicians, is a modern troubadour known for his charisma and humour. With his sparkling, virtuosic guitar technique and smooth, melodic voice, Koité captivates pop and world music lovers worldwide.
Lamine Cissokho, a kora player, hails from a renowned griot family whose traditions trace back to the 14th century, passing traditional pieces down through generations.
Aly Keïta has gained global recognition for his mastery of the balafon, an instrument resembling the marimba that consists of calabashes mounted beneath wooden slats — often referred to as the ‘grandfather of the piano’.
The group is joined by Mama Koné, Habib's long-time percussionist, who has also performed alongside Eric Bibb.
