The third annual Rotterdam Music Awards was held at Rotown, on the opening night of the Rotterdamse Popweek. Broederliefde took home the award for Best Track and DÂK won the award for Best Festival in 2016.
October 28th was all about shining a spotlight on Rotterdam's local talent. There were six categories this year: best concert venue, best festival, best club night, best new talent, best track and best export. All of the winners received in €500 in cash as well as a beautiful award, created by local design bureau Het Echte Werk.
Voting was done online through the Popunie website. In total, 10.000 people cast their vote. These are the results:
Best Concert Venue: Baroeg
Baroeg was the clear winner in the Concert Venue category.
Best Festival: DÂK
DÂK won the award for Best Festival. The successful event is held every year on the roof of the Parking Westblaak buiding.
Best Club Night: PRSPCT
The award for Best Club Night went to PRSPCT. This popular club night originated in clubs such as Nighttown and Maassilo and has now been adopted in venues all around the world.
Best Track: Broederliefde - Ik Was Al Binnen
Out of 30 nominated tracks, the song 'Ik Was Al Binnen' by Broederliefde came out on top.
Best New Talent: Goodnight Moonlight
Goodnight Moonlight took home the award for Best New Talent; a special category for promising artists of 21 years and younger.
Best Export: Evil Activities
The Best Export award is given to acts that really manage to put Rotterdam on the map internationally. This year, Evil Activities won the award for their good work in the hardcore scene.
