Looking for authentic 'Dutch architecture' in Rotterdam? You might want to check out the Delfshaven area in the Western part of the city. Delfshaven escaped the bombing of Rotterdam by the Luftwaffe on May 14, 1940.
However, later during the Second World War, the area around the Groot Visserijplein and other parts of Rotterdam-West were actually destroyed by an allied bombing, on March 31, 1943.
This is referred to as the 'Forgotten Bombardment'.
